Generally, there are no major health restriction when you plan to travel to Zambia. Ensure you exercise normal precautions.
Medicines and vaccines
Check the vaccines and medicines list and visit your doctor at least a month before your trip to get vaccines or medicines you may need. Make sure you are up-to-date on all routine vaccines before every trip.
Some drugs which are classified as Dangerous Drugs are illegal in Zambia.
COVID-19
On 21 March 2023, the Zambian Ministry of Health announced the lifting of all COVID-19 travel related restrictions at ports of entry with immediate effect.
All travellers to Zambia are no longer required to show proof of vaccination, recovery or testing against COVID-19.
However, COVID-19 is still in circulation. It is important to take precautions before travel, particularly for high risk population groups. These include: –
The Zambian Ministry of Health provides free COVID-19 vaccination at all public health facilities.
If you test Positive for COVID-19
You will be quarantined in line with the protocols for COVID-19 management.
Preventive measures
Observing preventive measures is important to prevent the spread of Coronavirus infection. Even after being vaccinated, some people may have Coronavirus, but may not have any symptoms. These may still pass the infection to others.

If you get vaccinated and in the event that you have an Adverse Event Following Immunisation (AEFI), urgently go to the nearest health facility or contact the following numbers:
MALARIA
Take prescription medicine to prevent malaria. Depending on the medicine you take, you will need to start taking this medicine at least 1-2 weeks before your trip, as well as during and after your trip. Talk to your doctor about which malaria medication you should take.
OTHER INFECTIONS
Generally, no travel Certificate is required at port of entry. Take general precautions.
General information
Review your health insurance plan to determine what medical services it would cover during your trip. Consider purchasing travel health and medical insurance.
Carry a card that identifies your blood type, chronic conditions or serious allergies, and the generic names of any medications you take.
Bring all the medicines (including over-the-counter medicines) you think you might need during your trip, including extra in case of travel delays. Ask your doctor to help you get prescriptions filled early if you need to.
